Electric Silverado

The Electric Silverado 1500 is a Game Changer

The Chevy Silverado 1500 isn’t the first significant pickup truck to get an electric powertrain, but it’s definitely the most noticeable. Vehicles from Ford, GMC, Tesla, and Rivian helped pave the way for electric vehicles, but Chevrolet is going to seal the path.

While the Chevy Silverado 1500 EV won’t hit the market until 2024, we can already tell that it’s going to be a game-changer. Here’s what we know so far:

Range and Performance

The new Silverado 1500 EV is going to look a lot like the gas-powered truck by the same name. It will be the same length and height as a short-bed crew cab Silverado, but it will come with independent front and rear suspension along with multiple electric motors. Since the new Chevrolet EV truck is being built in the same factory where the GMC Hummer is being produced, we can expect some similarities between the two.

The exact range and horsepower specs aren’t known just yet, but there are some clues to help us understand what’s coming. The Chevy Silverado 1500 uses an electric architecture much like the newly revived GMC Hummer. This system is able to charge 800 volts and 350kW which turns ten minutes of charging into about 100 miles of driving range. The Silverado EV Work Truck trim is expected to get 400 miles of range on a single charge.

You should expect at least 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque on the entry-level trims. There’s also going be something called “Wide Open Watts” that produces 664 hp and 780 lb-ft of torque. Using this WOW mode will also allow you to blast off from zero to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, which is faster than the Ford F-150 Lightning.

Higher-level trims like the RST will have a max towing of 10,000 pounds, while lower-levels max out at 8,000 pounds. There’s a lot of talk from Chevrolet that a future version of the Chevy Silverado 1500 is coming that will handle up to 20,000 pounds of towing capability.

Where The Chevy Silverado 1500 EV Really Stands Out

There are a few features on Chevy’s new EV that will really draw attention. For example, this truck is getting GM’s supercruise tech. That means you can enjoy semi-autonomous driver-assist driving on thousands of miles of pre-mapped freeways.

You’ll also have access to four-wheel steering, which gives you more control, improved maneuverability, and high-speed towing. There are also available air springs that can raise or lower the truck two inches.

The new electric Chevrolet Silverado 1500 can also supply power. It has ten different outlets, including a 240-v outlet in the bed. You’ll have power for camping, charging other EVs, and even keeping the lights on at home.

Reservations Accepted

Production of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 EV won’t start until the spring of 2023. That doesn’t mean you can’t get your name on the list now. Your local Chevy dealer can help you make a reservation and ensure you’re the first person on the block to bring this beast home. After all, once you see what this thing can do, you’ll never drive the same way again.
