We’re learning more and more about the Kia EV6 that will be offered as the first all-electric Kia model later this year.
With more information, we have learned that the GT trim of this vehicle will be the quickest Kia ever made. This impressive new SUV shows up with a range of power to give you the right level for the drive you want to experience.
Let’s Talk Battery Tech
The new Kia EV6 will use the dame E-GMP platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, which has been discussed at length as well. The battery numbers are expected to be the same with a 58-kWh standard battery and a 77.4-kWh for the long-range models. Both of these versions can give you either RWD or AWD for the driving system you desire. The standard EV6 and EV6 GT-Line models will be tuned to 168 horsepower and give you 258 lb.-ft. of torque.
These numbers are for the RWD versions and will be great for everyday driving and give a reasonable starting point. Add the benefits of AWD and you have 232 horsepower and 446 lb.-ft. of torque at these trim levels. If you move to the more powerful battery pack, you receive 225 horsepower for the RWD models and 321 ponies when you choose AWD for your drive.
Charging the Kia EV6 Won’t Take Long
The platform being used offers an 800-volt architecture which allows for DC fast charging. If you have this charging in your area, you can charge the EV6 from 10 to 80 percent of the battery capacity in 18 minutes, which is as close to a typical refueling time as we’ve seen thus far. This means you can charge up and be off in a matter of minutes instead of trying to find something to do all afternoon while your EV charges.
Charging Your Electronics During Your Ride
As expected, the vehicle-to-load (V2L) system will be offered and the adapters needed will be in place when the Kia EV6 arrives. This SUV can tow up to 3,500 pounds when you need to pull a small trailer. The target driving range for this vehicle is 315 miles for the long-range RWD models, giving you a number that’s pretty close to a gasoline-filled vehicle.
Find More Performance in the GT Trim

This model has more powerful motors on both axles to give you an AWD layout that produces 577 horsepower and 546 lb.-ft. of torque.
