Yet Another GM Recall

GM has had some of the largest recalls in history, most recently the faulty ignition switch recall that affected millions of vehicles around the world. Unfortunately they now have another recall that must be issued, the good news on this recall is that it won’t take long to fix because it only involved updating some software that’s meant to ensure vehicles are made safe. This recall does have to do with the safety of the GM vehicles which makes it a recall that we need to take seriously and if you happen to have one of the affected vehicles you need to have your vehicle updated right away.

This GM recall affects the front airbags and seat belt pretensioners. These are two parts of your vehicle you trust to keep you safe and deploy right away in the event of a crash, but in the case of these GM vehicles both of these items don’t perform the way their supposed to. In fact, there has already been a crash that resulted in one death and three injuries that were caused by these items not being able function correctly. This means there are several million vehicles on the road that potentially could be without the safety you rely on.

Imagine being in a collision and the seatbelt doesn’t tighten and the airbags don’t deploy. You might as well be in a car that was made in the 1950s if these items aren’t going to work right and keep you safe. The airbag is meant to give you a place to land and keep you from massive injuries and your seatbelt is meant to restrain you to your seat to keep you front becoming a projectile. Unfortunately these vehicles aren’t able to deploy the necessary safety in order to keep you safe and secure in your vehicle.

This recall affects the 2014-2016 Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet SS, Spark EV, the 2014-2017 Buick Encore, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Corvette, Chevrolet Trax, Chevrolet Caprice, Chevrolet Silverado, and the 2015-2017 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado HD, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, and Sierra HD and the Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV. This brings the total to 3.6 million vehicles in the US and 4.28 million around the world with the defective Delphi software for these two safety items that are supposed to be your main line of safety and defense against injuries on the road each day.

Thankfully the software that needs to be updated is already accessibly by dealers in the GM dealer network and should be able to have your vehicle repaired quickly. Dealers will repair the vehicles and update the software for free and give you the comfort and peace of mind you need to be able to keep driving knowing your vehicle will offer you the ride you need and the safety you deserve. If you have one of these affected vehicles, contact your local dealer and find out what you need to do to have your software updated right away.
