The First GMC Hummer EVs Have Hit the Lots

The all-new Hummer EV is now on GMC dealership lots, and it’s exceeding all expectations. The all-electric version of the Hummer first arrived as a pickup truck, but later in the year, it will also be available as an SUV. This new truck offers impressive capabilities on and off the road, and it has an absurd amount of power.

An Enormous Truck with Enormous Power

The Hummer was always big and bold, so it’s no surprise that the electric version makes a big statement. The new truck is not only large, it’s heavy, weighing in at about 9,000 pounds. But, all this weight is no match for the three electric motors and 212.7 kWh Ultium battery. These combine to generate 1,000 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque, which is plenty of power to propel the Hummer up to 60 mph in just three seconds.

What Can It Do?

The Hummer has some unique capabilities that drivers will have some fun with. One of these is it’s ability to crab walk. When in this mode, all four wheels turn diagonally up to ten degrees, allowing the truck to go sideways. This means that if a driver gets into a sticky situation, whether its on the trails or in a tight parking lot, they can probably get themselves out.

The new Hummer also has a fully independent suspension and up to 13 inches of travel in front and back. The Extract Mode is a first-of-its-kind mode, and when activated, the adaptive air ride suspension raises up to 6 inches, allowing the Hummer to drive over tough obstacles and ford through deep water.

If you’re wondering how far you can go in the Hummer EV before you need to charge back up, the EPA gives it a 329-mile range on a full charge.

Taking Technology To New Levels

The Hummer EV’s cabin is impressive and made even more appealing with the standard and available tech features. A massive 13.4-inch color touch screen sits in the center of the dash, and there’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel in front of the driver. The infotainment system uses Epic Games’ Unreal Engine software for an immersive 3D experience, with graphics and animations that provide information about what the truck is doing or what it can do. Instead of just giving you the option to use crab walk mode, it will show you an animated image of the truck crab walking.

Keep Your Hands to Yourself

GM’s Super Cruise technology comes standard with the new Hummer. This means that you can take your hands off the wheel when driving over certain highways. It also comes standard with other safety systems such as a blind-spot monitor, pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning.

GMC wants you to think of the new Hummer EV as a Supertruck. Fortunately, this label fits, from its power to its off-road chops and technology.
