It seems like every auto manufacturer on the planet is starting to dip their feet into the electric vehicle market. Why not? EVs produce far fewer greenhouse gases, they require far less maintenance than their gas-powered counterparts, and they save drivers tons of money at the pump.
It used to be that electric vehicles had a reputation of lacking the power to be anything more than a subcompact coupe. Jeep dealerships all over the country are ecstatic to announce the rumor that Jeep is bringing a fully electric model to market. Other auto manufacturers might be dipping in their toes, but Jeep is going all-in.
The Sub-Renegade is Coming
The Jeep Renegade is one of the most popular newcomers to your local Jeep dealership. This subcompact SUV isn’t like other vehicles in its class. Most impressive is its ability to handle the off-road trail like a champ.
One critique of the Renegade is that it didn’t come in an eco-friendly model, like a hybrid or plug-in hybrid. That is about to change when the new Sub-Renegade hits the road.
There isn’t a ton of information about this innovative Jeep model just yet, but there are plenty of reasons to get excited. The expectations are that this EV Jeep will be a bit smaller than the already subcompact SUV.

You may be surprised to learn that Stallantis took over ownership of Jeep. This group is currently the fourth-largest automaker in the world by volume. Stallantis is now the operator of 14 different brands, including Jeep, Chrysler, FIAT, Ram, Peugeot, and Citroen.
One of Stallantis’ most admirable goals is to bring new electric vehicles to market. There are currently 29 vehicles that implement electricity into their powertrains, which includes both EVs and hybrids.
Experts expect that the new electric Jeep will be powered by one of Stallantis’ new platforms. One of the biggest concerns is if the new electric powertrain will be able to handle the all-wheel-drive drivetrain Jeep owners expect from their SUVs.
There are some rumors of an innovative STLA architecture that will offer the opportunity for a second motor in the rear, which will provide a true all-wheel-drive drivetrain. This technology, however, isn’t expected for a couple more years.
More Electric Jeeps Are Coming
Jeep has a strong reputation and massive fan club. Talks right now are to continue looking at ways to bring more eco-friendly drivetrain options to its favorite vehicles. That might mean completely new vehicles in the Jeep lineup or simply additional options for the Jeeps we already know and love.
It is clear that Jeep knows it has limits. As of now, there’s no plan to try and build an EV larger than the Wagoneer as the technology just doesn’t exist just yet. There’s still plenty of room to grow as Stallantis continues to push the realm of what’s possible.
