Is Chevrolet’s Future Already Here? New Electric Corvettes and Standard-Setting C8

Sports Cars Recently Revealed

Chevy has been wowing sportscar enthusiasts this year by announcing a series of revamped classic cars from their history using V8 engines before the V8 officially retires from the company’s lineup.

But at the same time that we anticipate these new vehicles, General Motors is already planning for Chevy’s manufacturing future. Hybrid engines and electric motors dominate the future, and
Chevrolet is ready to meet them with brand-new vehicles based on old favorites. What new cars are planned to be included in the lineup in the next few years, what capabilities will they have now that V8s are out of the picture, and when can we expect to see them in Chevrolet dealer showrooms?

General Motors’ New Plan for Chevrolet

Chevy has already announced that a new electrified Corvette version will reach Chevrolet dealers next year. The company has even trademarked the name E-Ray – though it hasn’t confirmed the new Corvette will use that name when it comes out. Now, GM and Chevrolet have even more new vehicles in the works that they want to tell us about. Two new sports cars were announced by Chevrolet during the recent General Motors Investor Day presentation in New York City. According to GM President Mark Reuss, these cars are set to hit Chevrolet dealers in 2024.

Here’s what he had to say about both of them:

The Next Version of the 8th Generation Corvette

Reuss described the first of the two new cars as the “next version of the C8.” He also said that no one could imagine its performance level. This description set the bar very high for the next C8 model. Some sources reporting on the vehicles have speculated that a supercar version of the C8 with over 1,000 horsepower could be in the works. Unfortunately, Reuss didn’t go into much more detail about what this next-generation version of the C8 could include or when we could expect to see it at Chevrolet dealer showrooms outside of the 2024 estimation. Expectations have been raised even higher for the second vehicle that Chevrolet announced during the Investor Day event.

The Mysterious New C8-Inspired Performance Car

Reuss introduced the second sports car as based on the C8, but interestingly didn’t call it a Corvette. What he did have to say, however, was that it would be an incredible performance vehicle that would “set the standard for performance for Chevrolet” going forward. Talk about big shoes to fill! These new vehicles could be the first of Chevy’s powerful, modern environmentally-conscious line.

While barely any specifics about power and availability were released during GM’s Investor Day event, there’s still plenty of time for Chevrolet to release more information about these brand-new C8 sports cars in the next few weeks.
